Louise Fribo

Louise Fribo is a performer well known in her native Denmark for her touching voice and compelling stage presence mainly within the fields of opera and musicals as well as concerts.

Originally trained as dancer at the well renowned Bush Davies School in England, she has become a triple threat; a performer equally at home whether it be in dancing, singing or acting. With her classical singing studies as firm ground she not only worked in the obvious musical theatre field but quickly turned to roles such as Cunegonde in Candide which, at the age of 21, became her debut and breakthrough in Denmark.
After studies at the Royal Danish Opera Academy it became evident that an operatic career lay in the cards as well.

She has hence since 2003 worked in operahouses such as Staatsoper Hamburg, Komische Oper, Volksoper, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Opera National de Lyon, Salzburg Festival, and Royal Danish Opera. Her performed roles include Olympia, Zerbinetta, Fiakermili, Ariel, Blondchen and Queen of the Night. She was awarded the prestigious Reumert-Prize in Denmark for her Olympia and Salzburger Festspiele featured her in their 2006 Generation con Brio series for her portrayal of La Costanza in Mozarts  Il sogno di Scipione. The production has has been recorded on dvd for Deutsche Grammophon.
 

Parallel to her opera performances she keeps working in different constellations. Her career thus spans from performing 700 shows of CATS (Hamburg and London) to filming with Lars von Trier, recording 6 albums in her own name as well as playing opposite John Malkovich on the world tour of “The Infernal Comedy”.

Musical theatre and opera both share a place in her heart  and she has on that account just received outstanding reviews for her interpretation of Lloyd Webber’s one woman show Tell me on a Sunday  at Det Ny Teater in Copenhagen.
